Last Wednesday, Intereum and Herman Miller partnered with several local A&D firms to bring Santa’s Workshop to the Jerry Gamble Boys and Girls Club in Minneapolis. The event is We Care: a program that Herman Miller organizes with Boys and Girls Clubs across the country.
There were 26 cities where Herman Miller, Herman Miller Dealers and A&D firms participated this year. We asked local A&D firms to provide crafts for the children to give as gifts. In Minneapolis, we had 14 firms participate with about 40 crafts. Each year, the children vote on their favorite craft and an A&D firm is awarded the coveted We Care Traveling Trophy. BDH & Young passed the torch to Perkins + Will who won for their popular Peppermint Hot Cocoa craft.
The crafts were set up in the gymnasium, and we had over 250 participants! The children checked in, picked three crafts and were able to gift wrap their crafts at one of the two gift-wrapping stations. Each child received a pair of gloves and a hat (150 of each were left of site for those who were not in attendance).
There was face-painting, balloon animals, Davanni’s pizza and Häagen-Dazs ice cream. And you can’t have Santa’s Workshop without the man himself… We pulled a few strings, and Santa arrived – complete with paparazzi to send a picture of the children with Santa home in a frame.
Thank you to all of the elves that participated this year! The crafts were a success, and a good time was had by all. It was hard to tell who was having the better time: the children or the volunteers. “Clap once if you can hear my voice!”
And a very big THANK YOU to the Jerry Gamble Boys and Girls Club for letting us hold this event in their recently remodeled space! I must send out a special shout out to Marcus, Albert and Miss Neta. We really appreciated all of their help and enthusiasm.
